The Duck River Cemetery Restoration Project continues to make meaningful progress in its fifth year, thanks to the dedication of our incredible volunteers. Since 2021, we’ve worked on over 400 gravestones in the Ancient Section. Just last year, we cleaned 91 stones, reset or straightened 19, and repaired 4 that were broken.

You can really see the difference. This spring, we went back to some of the areas we photographed before the project began. What were once overgrown and crumbling sections are now cared for, with clean, upright stones and inscriptions that are readable again. 

Each marker we restore helps bring a small piece of our local history back to life. Check out these before and after photos to see the transformation for yourself—it’s a great reminder of why this work matters.
